While I'm in Waikiki, I thought I'd stay a bit and see what it has to offer. I stumbled upon this place after a recommendation. I'm not so much into roach-coaches, but the good reviews was from a reputable Source. As the picture shows, Pocho's Healthy Mexican Food is in a parking lot off of kuhio ave. before Lewers st. The truck has a menu propped outside very easy to read and a nice set up of chairs so you can eat it there. It has the basics on it, but no rice! I am totally obsessed with rice, so that was VERY disappointing to me. The guy taking the orders was not friendly, and every time I've been there (3 times), the staff is just not nice. The food is actually not bad. It's pretty good, way better then the other two so I'm hoping that's a good sign. Who knows maybe this tourist town will come out superior? Overall rating for this place is a 4. Obviously it's good enough for me to go back even with the sass from the staff! This place is cash only! Learned that the hard way, but the is an ABC ATM machine just across the street. This is a really good grab and go or take out of you live in Waikiki. I wouldn't venture into Waikiki jut for this Mexican food though.

ok so first stop was a nightmare, so I needed a fast pick me up. What's more Mexican than Señor Frogs?!?!?!? I've been to the one in Puerto Vallarta and it was AMAZING! So I gathered the troops up and journied into Waikiki. If anyone has been to señor frogs you know the only thing on their mind is tequila. So, inside is great and a really fun atmosphere! Bar is nice and they have these little funky stools you sit on that are pretty funny. Atmosphere= amazing, food= disappointing! It was not authentic and it tasted like they just used peppers to give everything flavor. Not happy with this at all! Maybe if I was drunk I could eat some, but definitely not a go to Mexican joint I so desperately need! Aye yai yai this is harder then it seems! Señor Frogs is the place to go to grab some shots and hit the bars in Waikiki, not a Mexican feast. I give Señor Frogs a 3 because they have hamburgers and fries on a menu, which is supposed to be a Mexican restaurant? Ok, well onto more places...

Ok stop number 1 is Azteca. After good yelp reviews I decided to grab my bf and make him come with me. So, first the location is actually very easy to find and parking wasn't bad at all. It's pretty small, but they weren't crowded so we were seated quickly. The waiter was knowledgeable about the food and took our order promptly. We both ordered burritos, one chicken and one beef, and rice. I'm a stickler about rice so I was interested to see what there's was like. Another VERY important factor about Mexican food is the chips and salsa. Theirs was pretty good, I've had better and I've had worse. It was fresh and the chips were crunchy. I ordered a margarita and my boyfriend had a Corona, standard Mexican food drinks. Ok, back to the food. It comes out in a timely manner and we are excited to just devour these burritos. Unfortunately I was very underwhelmed :( it was sub-par compared to the reviews. It was pretty expensive for food that was very bland and small portioned. I have not been back since and I don't really recommend it for experienced Mexican food eaters, or really anyone for that matter. Sorry Azteca but, Overall I give you a 3.5 (1 being low and 10 being high). The only aspect keeping this place above a 2 was the service. Ugh, still need to find a decent place that is relatively close, meaning Honolulu area.

I'm originally from California and I moved to Hawaii for school. I love it here except for the complete lack of any decent Mexican food. Someone literally told me, "Taco Bell is our Mexican food!". What? Are you crazy? You cannot be serious! I mean this statement really scared me. For any of you out there who believe Taco Bell is good Mexican food, leave this blog. I decided since I'm not the only one looking for mexican, I would try all places worth trying and rate them. Join my journey to find the best Mexican food on the island of Oahu.
